The feast went well! We fed 120 people until they were fll and the food was nice and we didn't make anyone ill and the pig looked very impressive and people danced and I drummed and overall we generally ruled!

And I've been dreaming about the cooking for two nights since.

On the 20th I met with Davey my lovely van driver and collected tables and chairs from two places and left them in the van and got taken to Tesco by [livejournal.com profile] zotz who helped me shop for starter ingredients and collect the hire glasses and left those in his car and packed a suitcase of things for the Hall and did relaxation exercises. I even found time to finish dying my hair, which was a matter of great importance, as you can imagine.

I then got about seven hours sleep and woke at 8am, as I have been recently, whether I like it or not. Not a huge amount, but enough to keep me vaguely sane. lj-cut for a long day )
Pictures will follow when I have finished buying Xmas stuff.

I look like this now.
I've got furry socks with poppies on them.
I seem to have accidentally volunteered to be treasurer for Lughnassadh. Oops. Also helping with cooking, which may mean I end up coordinating most of the buying.
I'm going to Glasgow on Sunday for a barbeque with the famous Angus. It will probably rain.
I am rocking quite hard at work, but this does not always make me feel great. Sometimes it makes me feel bad because productivity and change and creativity all lay me open to comment, and it's oh-so-easy to interpret comment as criticism.
Mind you the remark about how "I know you well enough that I know that will always be your response [to keep things as they are]" was bloody offensive. I'm the one who's been right at the forefront of our massive growth and change over the past five years and I can't have achieved all that by being hidebound. I am, however, opposed to change handed down from above without reference to my knowledge and experience. Humph.
I rock so hard at work that I am meeting someone at 5pm when I should be sloping off for a pint.
I think there's a snag in there somewhere...

I have stinking lurgy and therefore may not be available to do anything other than shiver and sneeze and swear. Things I may not be up for include but are not limited to: going to work, torchies meeting tomorrow, sorting out any torchie stuff I need to, sleeping, breathing and standing up. Just so you know.

People came to my house last night! Several people, in fact. I am now somewhat less bitter and less likely to start talking to lampposts, which is good. Also Alex left me with garam masala, which may inspire me to cook something edible with the TVP in the cupboard.

Work is being a pain, which is normal.

I want a popcorn maker in the shape of a duck, does anyone know where I can get one? Argos only seem to make rather stylish sleek ones. Popcorn is a great low fat wholegrain snack that doesn't feel like healthfood, and has the added advantage of taking up loads of space so you feel as if you've eaten a lot when you scarf down a whole bowl.

Hands up who wants to be in my new DVD share community (a local community for local people, mainly)? Better yet, go and join, and tell me what you think of the rules...

What have I done lately?

Went to the Movement and Shadows exhibition at the museum with Sandy on Saturday. Marvelous mechanical mice! (well, rats), Depressing Russian music! Themes of death and oppression! All in 25 minutes. which is a bit short, but I got it half price 'cos of the Art Fund membership my mum got me.

On Monday I watched Life on Mars, which is pretty enjoyable, plus Balderdash and Piffle is available on Telewest replay, so I get to watch it later. Hurrah for Replay being useful for one whole thing!

Plus I'm supposed to be going to Brokeback Mountain tonight for free. And there's smoke making on Saturday, though I may let the weather decide that one for me, for I am a wuss.

It is impossible to select a top five tunes for audiography.

And overall I'm a lot happier than I was at this time last year, proving that a combination of sunlight lamp and working over the Xmas gap is doing some good...

Gosh I have 28 virtual pints! That means I have implicit permission to get utterly slaughtered. And that the next round of virtual pints is on me...

I did get pretty drunk last night, actually, on half-price cocktails, which is good because if I'd drunk that much in beer I would have been weeping into it. But I didn't, so that's OK.

So, good things:
  • My boiler is fixed! Callooh! Callay! Hot water and heat are mine - and all because I am so great and Did It
  • I booked the dentist, too, even though I really didn't want to
  • My desk is tidy for the weekend
  • I watched A Zed and Two Noughts. It is indeed most odd. Me and [livejournal.com profile] sibelian agreed that any Peter Greenaway film would make a good Sapphire and Steel episode and vice versa - which saves us thinking up new ones of either...
  • Nearly finished my chenille cardigan - only one arm to sew on now - gods I hate making up
  • The Beltane blether meeting on Tuesday was actually quite good. I have some hope that things will come out of it
  • Friday!
  • Amsterdam! Soon!

Damn, a chunk went missing off the end of that last update, although on reflection it's probably for the best. The summary is that there is other bad stuff happening in my family. Surprise. I am glad that I'm typing this in the morning while there is light and my brain is less likely to be sucked into the black hole of despair that is November. And it seems to be getting long, so here is a cut )

I got a Treo 650! I am such a sucker - but is so cu-ute. So far it seems to be what the 600 should have been and wasn't. It can take photos indoors for instance. And I have successfully made it play an MP3 on its stereo headset that comes with.

There will shortly be a big pile of questions for Treo geeks, but just now I have to go to Samba, so I'll put the toy on to charge.

Sandy is in Arran for a week which is in many ways a good thing but means I'm feeling at a bit of a loose end. I'm really not very good at living alone. Tuesday I put some hooks up in the bathroom, which added to the shelf and soap dish I did at the weekend finishes the bathroom stuff that's been in a pile for ages. I feel disproportionally pleased about this. Now if only I could get a working bath all would be well...

Last night, on the other hand, I did nothing of use at all. Instead Jon came round and we watched a whole disc of Stargate without Sandy saying "Daniel Jackson", "Gee, I don't know Jack, maybe they're aliens" or complaining about the colour filters in any way, which made a pleasant change.

Tonight I'm off to the Forest fifth birthday party with Jon, and tomorrow I'm on holiday. Not that Im going anywhere, but not being at work is cool. Huzzah!

I am going to attempt to update a little more often, since, among other reasons, it will help me with my CBT (get your minds out of the gutter over there!) I feel I owe you lot some updates anyway, but be warned some of these could (if I even manage to do it) end up as lists of good/bad things or similar. So to liven things up there will be an opportunity for questions at the end of this post.

    Meanwhile - good/bad things )
