Just don't do what I did - I joined T-Mobile and cancelled with Orange at the same time, which meant that I spent 1 month paying line rental for both services. If I'd thought about it at all, I would've realised that giving one month's notice means that ideally you'd e.g. give notice with one and then 3 weeks later join up with the other. I suppose for this to work well you'd also make sure the deal you want to switch to will still be around in 30 days' time...
