What do we want? Radical Change!
When do we want it? Phased in gradually over the next five years!

It was in the very early 90s, when we were campaigning against student loans. The chant of the demo was mostly "What do we want? Grants not loans! When do we want them? Now!". But me and a few mates felt this didn't quite sum up our own demands accurately, so we chanted something like, "What do we want? A flexible but equitable system of student support that does not filter admission to higher education on ability to pay! When do we want it? As soon as the appropriate administrative systems can be implemented!"
Sadly it didn't catch on the same way ... Actually, this is a good example of getting more extreme over time - I'm now convinced that the simple "grants not loans" is basically sound, which I wasn't at the time.
I think it was on the same demo that we got in to trouble from a couple of po-faced Stalinists for "trivialising the issues". I think our sin was to have a good time doing a conga while singing, "We won't pay our loans back, and we won't pay our poll tax! Da da da daaa, da da da daaa!"

I think that's fantastic, and entirely in the spirit of student demonstrations.
Anti-war march last year (the one that was the week after the rich people protested about not being able to chase indigenous species for miles across the countryside as an alleged alternative to actually looking after their livestock properly) featured a gang of people with drums and tambourines cheerfully singing: "Stick the Countryside Alliance up your arse" to the tune of "She'll be coming round the mountain">. Marvellous!

Mind you, I'm not sure it's a practical suggestion. There's an alarmingly large number of people in the Countryside Alliance. You'd need gallons of lube.
