On Saturday I walked four miles of the Water of Leith Walkway - sadly this included possibly the dullest bit from Roseburn to Slateford. Next weekend I intend to go via the canal to Slateford instead, and Jon has said he'll come with me.

Where online can I get maps of Edinburgh which show places I can walk? Google maps don't show footpaths or the canal and neither does Multimap :-(

There's that cool bit near Slateford where an aquaduct takes the canal goes over the Water of Leith and there's the railway there too and it's all groovy. Also, Saughton Park is nearby which is a nice place to stop for a rest. There is usually an ice-cream van there with nice ice-cream, but not last Sunday I was disapointed to find.
I used to know some good paths around Leith too - need to re-acquaint myself.
Do you know the Innocent Railway path? I think that's fun.

Try the tourist board website or failing that go in and ask them, the right to roam thing should mean that there are new maps showing the places the public have access to.

the online maps dont seem to be good for that. get yourself a paper os map, then you can take it with you too.

I find the online arial photos (http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=55.924268~-3.247964&style=h&lvl=16) better than the maps for anything other than roads.

Ooh, sounds cool. [livejournal.com profile] djm4 and I are walking the London Loop at the moment, probably in stages of between 4 and 8 miles at a time, and after that I'd like to do the Thames Millennium Path or whatever it's called.

I don't know about maps, but there are guide books. for some reason the gift shop at the portrait gallery is the only place I have seen them. But i haven't been looking closely elsewhere. Try the tourist info site?
