The other thing that I should have said in my previous entry is this. I should not assume that just because I suddenly feel like crap on a stick it has to turn into a whole depressive episode. Yesterday felt so like the start of a month of awfulness, but today I'm sort of OK; not great, but some of the doomladenness has lifted. So, in the interests of feeling alright, here are some random questions which I would turn into a poll, but then it's a bugger for me or anyone else to read the answers...

To cheer me up and help me waste my time, can you recommend: a web comic, a classic piece of literature that might be available free online, a piece of witty or thought-provoking writing online, a legal MP3 and a way of making salad nice.

Who's the most famous person you know of on LJ? Can you recommend any famous-ish people with LJs or blogs with LJ feeds to me?

And I leave with this thought that occurred to me last night and seemed important enough to write down before it fled:

Narcellipsy = putting '...'s in your posts in your sleep. Ithankyou

Jane's World http://www.comics.com/comics/janesworld/ is vaguely interesting in that all the main characters are gay but it doesn't make a big thing of the fact.
It's in reruns at the moment, though.

Ozy and Millie http://www.ozyandmillie.org/ has it's moments, too, but the updating is incredibly unreliable.

Chopped tomatoes, onions and garlic in olive oil is a nice salad. I tend to reuse the garlic and olive oil mixture for several batches of tomatoes and onion a the flavour improves over a couple of days.

Have you seen Elf Only Inn (http://elfonlyinn.keenspace.com)?

I used to get a salad dressing from Tesco that was rasberry and balsamic I think. It was really nice, went a long way, and was also very low calorie if you care about that sort of thing. I also adore those 'bacos' that have never been remotely near a pig, and used to put them in everything I cooked as a student!

I'm living on Tesco's New World Salad with baby plum tomatos and 6 slices of parma ham for sustenance, with balsamic vinegar on top - approx 150-200 calories!
I think it's very tasty.
For the same amount of calories you can swap the ham with a boiled egg.

Not famous yet, but getting there, at least in the world of blogs: Rivka, at [livejournal.com profile] respect_otters.

Narcellipsy.

Okay, that's stolen for future reference!

Variety is important in a salad; iceburg lettuce is fine but iceburg and cos and frisee lettuce and lollo rosso is better. Colours are important too; raddichio, red onions and tomatoes, for example.
If you get some mayonnaise, perhaps thin it a little with some light oil and then mix in a couple of tablespoonfulls of lemon juice and some finely minced garlic, then that's nice. But don't leave it hanging around or it will curdle.
As for reading material, I've been dipping into a selection of works by Machiavelli (http://www.constitution.org/mac/niccolo.htm).

I've only dipped occasionally into Project Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.net/) and am re-reading The Communist Manifesto (http://www.gutenberg.net/etext93/manif12.txt).

My two favourite salads are a cous-cous one from Jamie Oliver and a lentil, feta and tomato one that I stole whilst on holiday. I'll put them up in my journal tonight when I'm doing my own dinner.

Books: The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Count of Monte Cristo, Fanny Hill, Dangerous Liaisons. And of course The Woman in White, if you like The Moonstone. (This is from me checking my novel poll to see what you'd read and what you hadn't.)

All except the first are probably available online somewhere.

Caesar salad dressing is wonderful :)

I bought my Suzanne Vega ticket today, too, so I'm definitely coming.
