What does one eat with cold meats in a buffet?

Does anyone know what the Auld Hoose is doing on Xmas day? (Or Xmas Eve or Boxing day.)

Do you like Stollen? Or some other kind of Xmas cake/pie/pudding? (No, I am not going to do a poll.) What about chestnuts?

Where in Edinburgh can I get cheap holly and mistletoe? (Please note that I am not prepared to climb over any fences)

What is everyone up to on Hogmanay?

*holiday in that hideously speshul American sense, that is

It's hard to do an update these days because my moods are swinging all over the place, and when I update LJ it tends to bring out the more depressed end of the spectrum (gosh, I wonder why that is?) However some very good things have happened lately, and I am at least intermittently able to appreciate that, so here goes.

I've got my family presents and card sent, so I don't have to worry about Xmas, since they're the only people who would be angry if they didn't get them. Unfortunately I had to send Ed something since he will be in London for Xmas, but on the other hand his not being here is worth it. And he's (probably) found a new place to live after January. All of these facts fill me with quiet relief.

Our new cooker arrived on Friday, and was brought up the four flights of stairs with the help of a totally cool robotic cooker-moving-up-stairs-device which climbed very very slowly with the help of two wheels and two legs and a lot of hydraulic noises. I was in awe. The cooker is green and shiny and cooks stuff. And Sandy's dad is paying, so it's a good one. Not only did it arrive and get fitted with minimal fuss, but it did so in time for me to get to Ikea with the lovely Emma. I got a heap of useful stuff, including even more shelves for my bookcase, shelves for Sandy so he could finish his room, cheap curtains for the living room which will do until I can afford velvet, a bathroom mat and a decent chunky garlic press so I don't have to have red paint in my food any more.

On Saturday I went to Sciennes with Sandy and we now seem to have a new antique clock. It's got a pendulum and everything! Clock!

And all this house improvement activity is being punctuated by interesting and productive conversations with Sandy about paint. Negotiations on the colour green are ongoing...

Bad things
If I let myself think about it I am still incandescently angry with my family about stuff I won't go into here because IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
I am at work all week. Boo!
Trinity still haven't repaid our deposit from Laputa. Fuckers.
