But there is one thing that I really need to know

1. Does anyone know where I can obtain a current Snapfax?
2. Does anyone have a 20" bass drum I can borrow (optimism) or know where I can buy one for less than full price? Processionals use kit drums with the extraneous metal gubbins stripped off, and a second hand one would do fine...
3. How can I tell whether I look sufficiently different from my last passport that I need someone to sign my photo again?
4. And if so do I know anyone who is allowed to sign it?
5. What does the acronym above mean?

The people in my local postoffice didnt think I looked like the old passport photo. I sent it off anyway and it was fine.
I can sign passport photos but hopefully if needed you can find someone closer to home.

3. You probably haven't. I got away with adding a beard / changed hair length / different glasses with no problems.

Last time round I seem to remember anyone with a current UK passport could sign them. I think they did away with the civil servant etc thing. But either way I can sign them if you need me to.

I look completely different in my two passports and didn't bother getting the second (recent) one resigned. That's what happens between 16 and 26...

I really must get my passport renewed, but I don't know what to do about the photo - Do I go for the summer or winter look?

Or shall I send 2 photos and let them decide....
