At this rate it's going to take another three days to tidy just my bedroom. I know I'm doing it all wrong and it feels like I'm going round in circles. What's a good algorithm for tidying? I have tried "see something out of place, put it away" but that implies that all things have a place. I have tried tidying one bit of furniture at a time but that means things get piled in smaller and smaller spaces. Aaargh.

Also it's time to take an anti-histamine just to cope wth the dust.

Recommend wearing dust mask. Looks silly but keeps most of it out.

Creating dedicated places for things is v hard when you don't have enough storage space and you might not. Is there anything that can be sold/recycled/thrown away? If you share living space with someone else, can you share storage space for similar items if they are using less of theirs?
Good luck x

I'm finding it incredibly cathartic to:
a) have my partner leave the country
b) chuck out loads of paper on the grounds that I've not looked at them since last time I freaked out and tried to sort my papers.

This is my algorithm:

Take a large roll of black bin bags, some carrier bags and some then some crates/boxes.

Start in one corner of the room, and pick up each item in turn. Stuff to junk goes in the bin bags. Stuff to keep goes in one set of boxes/crates, stuff that belongs to other people that needs to be returned goes into another set of boxes/crates, finally stuff to charity shop goes into the carrier bags.

When finished, go through boxes/crates of "Keep", and find places for them. Bin bags go to tip and/or recycle. Carrier bags go to charity shops. Box of "Other people's stuff" gets wibbled over.

Keep going! I always find it cathartic to get rid of stuff I no longer want.

I'm also feeling pleased because I've finally finished painting the bathroom. We had it completely refurbished two and half years ago; all it needed was the walls & woodwork to be painted and it's taken me this long to do it.
