I've had a somewhat crappy couple of days, so to cheer me up here is a lyrics quiz.

Step 1: Put your MP3 player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 20 songs that play.
Step 3: Ask everyone to guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: No cheating

  1. I'm surrounded by idiots every day, frustrated by the games that people play, confused by what the TV says I need
  2. Coming down say I love it now now now
  3. You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
  4. Here silver trumpets will trill in the Arabic streets of Seville.
Oranges roll in the gutter and you pick them up and peel back the skin
  5. See her face, everyday. I see her face, it doesn't help me
  6. For once in my life I've got something to say
I wanna say it now for now is today
A love has been given so why not enjoy
So let's all grab and let's all enjoy

  7. Eternity is a lonely place,
    An ocean without shores
Empty faces tracing paths through lonely corridors
  8. Watching him dash away, swinging an old bouquet
  9. My flatmate told me,
Said that you'd rung while I was out
    Celebrating being young
And I was thinking while I was drinking,
I'd like to think I'm an adventurous chicken...
  10. 22 miles of hard road 33 years of tough luck 44 skulls buried in the ground crawling down through the muck
  11. Oh I had nine lives but I lost all of them
and I've been seaching the night
and I've been seaching in the rain
    I tried to find them
    But they disappeared
  12. I'd burn all the uniforms I'd burn all the ask me buttons
I'd burn all the intercoms I'd burn all the time clock cards

  13. We were tight, but it falls apart as silver turns to blue.
Waxing with a candlelight, and burning just for you

  14. And she was lying in the grass
And she could hear the highway breathing

  15. I know cos I've seen it it was great and I want it
There's no point in sitting going crazy on my own

  16. On 6.6.66 I was little I didn't know shit
About 7.7.77 eleven years later still don't know any better

  17. Destiny, destiny protect me form the world
Destiny hold my hand protect me from the world

  18. Sharp as teeth and stars
    I can't give you up
    Like a moth to light
    Move like caramel

  19. Every morning now I pray
The phantom pains not to come again
A million tears to slip away
And take the vessel of my blame
  20. I wanted to be with you alone
    And talk about the weather
But traditions I can trace against the child in your face
    Won't escape my attention

This is hard. I'm only sure about number 6.

3. Jerry Lee Lewis: Great Balls of Fire
6. Sham 69: If The Kids Are United
10. The Doors: Who Do You Love?

You are correct on 3 and 6. Who do you love actually goes - I walked 47 miles on barbed-wire, Cobra-snake for a necktie. Built a house by the roadside, Made of rattlesnake hide.

Yeah, I kind of knew I wasn't right on that one; but you can see how those words might fit...

To be honest I wouldn't have got that one if it hadn't been for the clues up there - it was one I "knew" but couldn't place.

13. 36 Degrees - Placebo. Possibly my favourite song from their first album, though I don't know why.

14. And She Was - Talking Heads.

15. Modern Way - Kaiser Chiefs (I think it's that song, anyway)

18. Koko - Goldfrapp. I fell hopelessly in love with those lyrics the moment I heard them.

20. Head Over Heels - Tears For Fears, probably my favourite of their songs, too.

All of which reminds me. I took all your things from your Audiography post in 80s week, and I have yet to listen to some of them, but this is principally because I have been obsessing over, and indeed rolling around on the floor sobbing and listening to, 'Calypso' by Suzanne Vega. Thank you very much for making it part of my life, it's important.

14 - Talking Heads, And she was
16 - Morphine, French Fries with pepper.
Chips in a peppery sauce actually was what I had for dinner on 9/9/99. It seemed best.

I too had french fries with pepper then. It seemed only fair.

I'll take number 8 - by chance I only just got a copy of Aladdin Sane for my birthday. Not quite sure how I've gone without it all this time.
