Bored bored bored bored bored...
The barbeque on Sunday was pleasant enough, but vaguely unsatisfying. Plus I had forgotten how utterly infuriating it is travelling on Sundays. Also people should not be allowed to sell one bedroom flats for 247 thousand pounds. Not even in a world where I personally have 247 thousand pounds, a situation which is hard to imagine.
And 1837online have pissed me off mightily by chanrging me a fiver for data I can't even view because they use such a stupid fucking plugin. Nor do they reply to their email.
There is nothing new under the Sun, and it's night time.
Plus I hab a clod. The only reason I'm not in bed is cos I want to catch the last episode of Triangle even though it will probably be vaguely unsatisfactory too.
I demand entertainment. If I was Warren Ellis the internets would dance for my pleasure. I feel cheated.

Hmm. Maybe I have PMT...

247 thousand pounds?!?

Please tell me this wasn't in Edinburgh. I know prices are silly, but I didn't think they'd got that bad.

Glasgow. Kelvinside. Lovely flat, very big rooms and a garden, but still...

Just out of interest, what are you looking for on 1837online? You're right: they really aren't very forthcoming about the fact you can only use MSIE or Netscape. I used to use the site at work but now I'm on a new machine on which I don't have permission to load software, so I haven't bothered even to try it.

I was hoping to find the birth certificate of my great grandfather Charles Samuel Searle for 19/08/1862 in Bungay, Suffolk. And then maybe work on from there. But I'm using a Mac so I'm screwed...

I use a Mac at home and I thought that they did have a DjVu plugin for it; I remember looking and then thinking that I couldn't be arsed.

There are other (free) ways to find out the GRO reference of your great grandfather's birth cert so you can order it (you would have to order it from the GRO (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp), you can't view the cert itself online). From checking FreeBMD (http://www.freebmd.org.uk) it looks like that entry has been transcribed: Births Sep 1862 - SEARLE Charles Samuel, Depwade vol 4b page 204. You can check the scan of the original GRO index page using the 'spectacles' link to the right of it: it looks correct, although I'm not 100% sure about the page number.

Let me know if you want any more help!
