Time out from the world
That 2005 meme, finally
What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Lots of things, which is part of what makes it a good year. Visited a Scottish Island (Lewis), went to Amsterdam by myself, helped run a Beltane group, went to a beach party, took part in Samhuin, Samba drumming (including being in the Easter Parade and the Festival Cavalcade), stewarding a large event (Make Poverty History)
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't do resolutions, I make plans. Next year's plan can best be summarised up as "Commence Stage Three"
Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, but I'm noticing more and more pregnancies in my general vicinity...
Did anyone close to you die?
No, but it was a close run thing :-(
What countries did you visit?
The Netherlands, plus I had trips to Lewis and Hadrian's Wall
What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A working bath, more tuits, a proper summer holiday
What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No particular date. I'm terrible with dates
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
The work I did on Beltane and Samhuin and performing with the Samba Band (even though I played like crap) because I was so brave...
What was your biggest failure?
Not getting a working bathroom, and in general failing to deal with people who can do house stuff
Also failing to get a proper summer holiday
Did you suffer illness or injury?
One terribly sore wisdom tooth which got taken out at the regular dentist's, nothing major
What was the best thing you bought?
I could say the Treo 650, but that would be too, too geeky. The Cannabis Cup ticket comes to mind...
Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Mine, all the lovely Nightwatch members new and old,
lilitufire,
Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
No-one who doesn't already know about it and they are dealing with it pretty well
Where did most of your money go?
Beer, Amsterdam,
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Having my own flat, Patti Smith, going to Amsterdam
What song will always remind you of 2005?
No Wow by The Kills. Yes I know it came out in 2004.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder?
Happier
ii. Thinner or fatter?
Very slightly thinner
iii. richer or poorer?
Slightly richer
What do you wish you'd done more of?
DIY and GSETDI, exercise
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Hitting reload like a lab rat, eating crap, fretting
How did you spend Christmas?
With Jon, on my sofa, watching DVDs
How many one-night stands?
Nary a one
What was your favourite TV program?
Doctor Who, Around the World in 80 Treasures
I also discovered CSI.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not hate, no, but I am wary of working with one or two people
What was the best book you read?
Kim Stanley Robinson's Forty Signs of Rain, followed by Fifty Degrees Below. The Vesuvius Club and Holy Fire also merit a mention
What was your greatest musical discovery?
[Unknown site tag] :-)
What did you want and get?
To go to Amsterdam, a working boiler
What was your favourite film of this year?
Films mostly failed to move me this year. I only saw two in the cinema, (Lemony Snicket, and Batman Begins), both of which were pretty good, and Hitchhikers was cool (I saw it yesterday)
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went for a giant Mexican meal with friends, I was 39
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Wearing more than one colour every so often
What kept you sane?
My psychlogist and CBT
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Captain Jack!
What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably climate change, though mostly I've been too tired and cynical to get actually stirred as such
Who did you miss?
lilitufire and
pavlos who both spent too long out of the country :-(
Who was the best new person you met?
I'm not sure I want to play that game
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
It only takes one psychologist to change a lightbulb, but the lightbulb has got to want to change.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Say the first thing that
Comes into your mind when you see me
If it looks like it works and it feels like it works
Then it works
With the sun on your face
All these worries will soon disappear
Just follow me now just follow me now

Things I did in 2006 (so far)
no subject
I do have a spare bed you know, since you like cats and stuff :)
