Not the first day of the rest of my life *again*!

I am going to attempt to update a little more often, since, among other reasons, it will help me with my CBT (get your minds out of the gutter over there!) I feel I owe you lot some updates anyway, but be warned some of these could (if I even manage to do it) end up as lists of good/bad things or similar. So to liven things up there will be an opportunity for questions at the end of this post.

Meanwhile -

Good things

Yesterday I:
  • made it too work in spite of being off in the morning
  • got the stuff in Boots I needed
  • ate Boots sushi and low fat crisps and a Danone thing
  • invented a new and delicious soup - recipe to follow
  • painted and put shelves back up in the ongoing living room decoration
  • read a lot of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell
  • made dinner out of pasta and mushrooms and stuff

    Today I:
  • ate porridge
  • took a bag of books to the charity shop
  • made my psychologists appointment
  • and walked both ways
  • and therefore had the morning off totally legitimately
  • bought a new filter to make the cafetiere work (at Grays of George Street, natch)
  • went out of the building at lunchtime
  • and bought a giant tub of Fairtrade coffee
  • and some veg to stir fry tonight
  • ate healthy soup and a wholemeal roll

    Bad things

On Sunday I got so drunk that I couldn't come in on Monday morning. I am now Not Drinking for at least Sundays to Wednesdays and I have to work out how to drink a hell of a lot less when I do go out to pubs etc. The last couple of weeks I've been caning it and it's made me very depressed - no shit Sherlock

And now for your questions - if you have been patient thus far I will reward you by promising to answer the next five questions about my life and doings. Also if there are no questions I may cry.

I am coming up on Friday night - is there anything you would like me to bring from Londinium?

Also is it okay if I pick your brain a little over the weekend? I promise it won't hurt...

read a lot of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell

What do you think of it?

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Garlic, courgette/squash and spinach. Made with a whole bulb of green garlic wot I got from the Farmer's Market.

Non-alcoholic ways to enjoy a night out :-)

And yes, certainly. What time will you be here?

    [identity profile] lolliepopp.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Train gets in about 8.30pm, so probably be at yours for 9ish.

Won't do any picking till I've had a nap though!

I have some non alcoholic 'things' left over from Manchester last week, cannot promise they will help the whole getting up on a Monday!

I'll raid the DVD collection too - Dylan Moran?

    [identity profile] gingiber.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
    did you get my mail?
what happened to you favorite, I missed you leaving - sorry.

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
    Dylan Moran - yes, definitely!

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I did but it's on my home machine so I keep forgetting to check the colours

Sorry, I thought I'd said bye but I had to get home and sleep.

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's pretty good so far - I'm about 2/3 of the way through.

    [identity profile] lolliepopp.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Mad irish rant machine it is then, I'll add him to my list.

You seen Bill Bailey "Part Troll" yet? Could bring him also...

Fair enough. Any time you want to have a toddle down there :)

    [identity profile] drdoug.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to work out how to drink a hell of a lot less when I do go out to pubs etc

I find it easier not to drink at all than to drink less on any given occasion down the pub. People can usually register "they're not drinking", and after the initial bother will happily get you a J2O or whatever in the round. But "I don't want to drink too much" is harder for people to process and seems to elicit "Oh go on, just one more" responses.

the next five questions about my life and doings

I'm probably over the limit now, and my first question (about the soup) has already been asked and answered. But if you want another: What's your all time favourite soup?

    [identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
    Fantastic subject line.

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean, but there's really a limit to how much diet coke one rabbit can drink in an evening, so I'm gonna try.

I think fave soup so far was either roasted garlic vichysoise or spicy pumpkin and coconut. Both are, naturally, slightly too creamy and high calorie for lunch :-(

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Kit Williams, or maybe Charles Vess

    Beryll Cook

There's a thing of Saint Bridget being carried away by angels in the national I like

The pigeons on Leith Walk - just the right height to break your ankle on

Yes. 9-11 August is all free right now. I want to go to Vaudeville on the 10th or 11th too, would you be up for that?

    [identity profile] skx.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Any particular reason for the visit? I was vaguely thinking of trying to be alive on Friday for a club night ..

    [identity profile] skx.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
My single question, is it substantially cheaper to buy a new filter than a whole new cafcafetiere?

I recall that I had my previous one and the filtery bit (the big round bit on the stick that you push down) managed to get holes in it, and I couldn't find them sold seperately at a cheaper price than a whole new thing, glass jug and all.

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
The metal mesh to go inside the round bit was £3, which is a bit much but less than a new one...

Fankoo. Have decided am bored with lyric quotes for a while, but will continue to strive for some slight wit...

    [identity profile] drdoug.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
:-( But they are absolutely fantastic soups. Mmm - I've not had soup for ages and am inspired.

Do you happen to know if there's anything apart from branding that makes a Vichyssoise entirely distinct from plain old cold leek-and-potato soup? I have an idea that Vichyssoise is supposed to have cream in, but don't know if that's the magic difference.

    [identity profile] ciphergoth.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to answer "try Grays of George St" before I saw that this was exactly what you did...

    [identity profile] lizw.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, garlic. I had cream of garlic soup in Hungary the other week, which was surprisingly yummy. The other ingredients sound good too.

    [identity profile] joexnz.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
I would certainly be up for vaudville
but only 10th, as have gaming on Thursdays
we could art gallery on the afternoon of the 10th
fruit, city and national all being within spitting distance of each other and I suppose I should go see the gaugin things.

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds ideal. I think I get a free drink at Vaudeville as I have a membership card, and it's only a fiver. Where is Gaughin?

    [identity profile] purplerabbits.livejournal.com 2005-07-27 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
I am vaguely thinking of that club too, but only vaguely as I'm a bit vague at the mo...
