I do not want to live in a world that not only has Valentine Socks but which offers them on a site designed to feed the hungry by making the rich view adverts for shit they don't need. It bugs me, you know?
Meanwhile I am feeling totally uninspired to write requested rants, but I'll try.
Teaching Creationism in Schools
Well it's mind bogglingly bad, of course, and no rant of mine could do more than has already been done, but I'm not convinced that it's actually happening in the UK. I wish the people who actually have evidence of this would get it to Ofsted as requested. Alternatively we could start teaching that the gods were creating by the mating of the heavens and the earth, that people and animals used to live in peace until men built fire against god's specific instructions and that the sun is an egg laid daily by the Great Cackler
The Guardian
I love the Guardian. I love the way I get to read it free at work. I hate that they've made their online crossword a paid service and they want you to register online to read media stories for some weird reason.

Vardy schools accord equal importance to both creationism and theories of evolution. According to McQuoid, though state schools are required to teach evolutionary theory, "also, schools should teach the creation theory as literally depicted in Genesis". The 300-year reign of the enlightenment apparently counts for very little: in his view, creation and evolution are both "faith positions". Blair, it should be noted, has claimed to have no problem with such a stance. In 2002, when asked by the Liberal Democrat MP Jenny Tonge if he was happy about creationism being taught alongside evolution in state schools, he replied, "I am very happy. I know that the honourable lady is referring to a school in the north-east [ie, Emmanuel College], and I think that certain reports about what it has been teaching are somewhat exaggerated. It would be very unfortunate if concerns about that issue were seen to remove the very strong incentive to ensure that we get as diverse a school system as we properly can."
