I have decided that LJ is the right place for topics that would drive people away with boredom if I talked about them in the pub, so here are my new technical requirements [1], as what I have thought about for some time...
Phone: I now have a new [2] Treo 180g. I'm training it just now so it will be my friend. This fills my phone and personal organiser needs. It's not a 600, but on the other hand I didn't pay for it, so I can get the ret of the list...
Camera: The Treo doesn't have a camera, so at some point I may replace my chunky camara with the unreliable battery door that needs to be held on with gaffa tape, but not right now.
Music. I'm going to get a 40gig iPod. I am I am! Nothing can stop me! Bwa ha ha!
Computers: I have mulled over this and what I seem to need is a) a quiet machine for the living room with a TV card and a machine for my room which I can attach (3) USB devices to, with working sound and a CD burner. I am tempted to buy at least one new machine for this purpose, especially since I also want a flat screen monitor, and a new machine from a reputable dealer may be the most economical way of doing it. I'd be interested in recomendations for this, but not if they involve too much pain.
At the end of all this I may have a spare simless phone, a noisy bulky computer and a *very* old monitor. Also an assortment of Palm V cradles and bits, A bulky minidisc player and a CD walkman. Anyone who feels a need of any of these, speak now and I'll put you on the list. I'd be happy to trade such items for MP3s/burnt CDs, software, geek time etc. One computer and an old Palm have been bagged already.

Nah, get one of these instead. It has a radio! And a display on the remote! And plays oggs! And records! And stops you looking like every other iPod-using wanker in Hoxton!
OK, that last one may not apply to you.
Computers
Just don't do what I did and build your own / get someone else to build it, as I now have a computer which overheats and crashes after it's been on for a few hours...
