Well it's a week since my last update, so I thought I'd better reassure people that I'm still alive. Fondou went well, as did Xmas dinner. I did a goose! It was nearly 7 kilos and only fit in the oven diagonally, in spite of which it's mostly been eaten. Sandy is promising goose soup next, and we have to find a use for 2 litres of dripping...

Events of the holiday that stick in my mind include making [livejournal.com profile] skx wear a truly daft hat, my totally tacky tree, and a dream last night that managed to combine everything we watched on Xmas day. It included me fleeing from The Joker and evil hench-people (Batman) while being aided by three insane old triplets (Belleville Rendezvous), who helped me attack them with bread from my bread gun (Eddie Izzard). There were also elements of SimCity in there, which I've been playing far too much of.

I really need to get out of the house, though. Is anyone going to the pub tonight? I shall probably be at Ascension tomorrow, if I can find something to wear that doesn't make me feel too much like a lardy goose-filled blob: dancing should help me work some of it off, anyway. And I've agreed to see my mum on Sunday night. She's been pretty obnoxious, but only over the phone so far, which I guess could be worse.

And this track goes into my favourite covers playlist. I definitely have to get an iPod soon. Especially now that [livejournal.com profile] pavlos had given me a Treo! Yay Treo!

Which Treo?

A goose! That's impressive - how long did it take?
My dad (ex-chef) always used to say that if you were roasting a goose, you should put a stone in the oven at the same time, and when the stone was done, the goose would be ready...

The fat from the duck we had is frozen in small portions to be used to recreate for subsequent meals the wonderful roast potatoes. Yum! Admittedly there was rather less than two litres, though, more like a pint.

Er... how do you know when the stone is "done"?

Wow. How did you manage to find room for all the trimmings? Juggling them with our 5 kilo goose and a Quorn roast for B was tricky enough.

we have to find a use for 2 litres of dripping...

I second [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren's suggestion of using it for baked potatoes (or parsnips etc). Last year, I froze ours in the little plastic trays you get from takeaways. One of those will do for two or three roast dinners, and saves you defrosting the whole lot every time. Not that I have taken my own advice this year - we've run out of the trays, so I have frozen it in one big lump, in the plastic basin the Christmas pudding came in.
