we're in a play of slow decay

My e-mail is temporarily working due to getting a new ethernet cable, although I'm not happy as I still don't understand what was stopping it from working in the living room.

My phone is now not working because every time I plug it in it displays 'unable to charge'.

I am not happy.
Mood:: 'infuriated' infuriated

Is it something simple wrong with the phone, like a dead battery?

(Not sure whether you mean mobile, or internal cordless one - but I have a cordless phone inside my house and it had lots of intermittent problems which were cured by replacing it's "rechargable" AA batteries).

It's my mobile, so if the batteries have suddenly died it's gonna be expensive.

Ach that's unfortunate.

If it's complaining about charging it's probably going to be either the charger or the battery that's borked. Try borrowing a different charger from somebody with a similar phone, or swapping the battery with a friend to see which it is.

ISTR paying about GBP 10-15 in Dixons for a new battery for my old mobile, and it'll probably be about the same.
