They're opening a futures market in terror.
Senator Dorgan said that it was "useless, offensive and unbelievably stupid". He said he had trouble in persuading other people that it was not a hoax.

This news item is also remarkable in that someone told me face to face before I found it online...

Who's coming to see dino-birds tonight? Shall we go on to the impromtu LJ meet at Drouthy Neebors?

I did want to come to the museum, but I need to go home to collect corsets for [livejournal.com profile] ophelia_complex and I think I will need a sit down with a cuppa after work. I'll see you at Drouthy Neebors though if you end up there.

The market that you describe makes sense in principle. I don't think the idea is simply daft. Of course the problems are:

- It's generally illegal to arrange financial incentives to terrorism. Duh!

- It's offensive when the operator of the market has a strong terror presence. Du-uh!

- The operator of the market is famously keen on arresting and investigating those likely to be the best traders. Ta-DUH!

Yes, in the UK at least, you're not allowed to take out life insurance on just anyone. When it was allowed, some of the people on whom policies were taken out on got murdered. Odd that.

If you start making a book on things like this, people will do it for the money.
