At least I won’t cry in public places

I will get through today I will. I will do this by saying random things. Um, like...

My giant shoes are allegedly about to be shipped. Mini rar!

Hello [livejournal.com profile] karmicnull!

I do not want a Dubya Doll.

Tomorrow is Nightmare, and will have a light-up head-dress.

(no subject)

I have now booked my annual leave for 'the holiday season' - from 16th December to 3rd January inclusive. Three weeks off - huzzah! So the next question is what to do with it? I want to be in Edinburgh for Hogmanay, but apart from that I have nothing planned. It looks as though trains from london to dinburgh between Xmas and New Year are still just about affordable, so I'm very tempted to go down for a week or so, but it depends what's going on, and where I can stay etc etc. So, anyone got any bright ideas? Or should I just spend three weeks in bed with occasional breaks for alcohol? (not that that isn't a tempting thought...)

Come and have another slice

To do today:-
1. Tidy my room so I can see to pack.
2. Take a few last minute clothes to launderette for unaccustomed service wash on the grounds that way they'll be dry in time to pack. Try not to get used to the concept of service washes.
3. Buy Tales from Earthsea which is allegedly going to be in the Science Fiction Bookshop
4. Do not read Tales from Earthsea. Even a bit. Put it straight in my train bag and don't even look at it. Thus I *should* have something to read in the train.
5. Pack my dinky (well quite large, actually) makeup case with makeup
6. Pack underwear and wash kit and anything else I don't have to make a fashion decision about. Remember that I don't have to make a fashion decision about *everything*.
7. Make fashion decisions. This could take some time so remember to eat during the process.
8. Do mending and alterations I should have done days ago. If I can be arsed.
9. Pack fashion decisions, remembering that I am going to have to be able to lift the case and attempting to leave some room in the case for shopping
10. Panic.

Update: Items 1, 2 and 5 done. Well into item 10. Time to go to the book shop, methinks...

But I'm a salt sea pirate a-lookin' for my fee.

That's enough pirates. Meanwhile I have installed Realplayer just to play this track, since I couldn't find it on MP3. Not sure it was worth the effort. Actually I'm sure it wasn't, but I was bored. Also I hate Realplayer 'cos it talks to you and tries to get you to download the new version as you quit.

Today I have mostly been making plans of escape, but I'm getting depressed because they're not very good plans. I figure any plan that involves winning the lottery has a fairly fatal flaw. Where can I learn Dutch in Edinburgh that's not the University? There's a course at the University but it clashes with my Origins of Writing course that I've already booked and paid for...

I wonder whether I will ever get back into doing my job instead of staring into space. If not I may need to find a new one smartish before anyone notices how useless I've become...

What am I gonna do?

OK, even though I'm feeling crappy at the moment I am determinedly looking ahead. So - what's good in Amsterdam that me and [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth should go to? Coffee houses, museums, clubs, whatever... So far my only decision is to go on a canal boat, and not to be so stoned that we pass out all weekend.

Hand over hand up the lifeline

Have now booked next week off work so I can worry about BiCon in peace. This means I'm available for noodling round shops, kitten viewing, drinking coffee etc etc. And I certainly intend to do some of those things and not just tie myself up in BiCon work cos it's my time off dammit!

This also means I'll be at DKY's olde gothick night, although not probably in complete olde gothick outfit as this would involve corset which is not wise in this weather. I hate this, it's hot and humid without being properly sunny.

I will feel better soon. I have to really...

And the changes all tend to be something to do

A rough schedule for the next wee while:-

Today: at home doing BiCon stuff. This evening I'm going to Studio 24 for UTI with [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth and Jon. If anyone wants to come with us, please get in touch. This is a good night to try particularly if you're not sure about techno, 'cos it's free! I think I've persuaded Andrew Hewitt, as well, which is a first...

Saturday will be more BiCon work, maybe some BiCon shopping, still not buying any giant shoes, followed by either [livejournal.com profile] rainstorm's party or the Mish depending on how mashed I get tonight.

Sunday I will do even more BiCon work, if not dead by then, and go for a nice walk in the sun if it's not pissing down. If I feel very virtuous I may investigate the Commonwealth Pool gym.

Monday I'm back at work and so is my nice boss who's been away for four weeks. I expect to be busy.

Tuesday I may get Gosford Park out on video, does anyone want to see it with me?

Wednesday I'll probably look in at the Holyrood, because I'm staying in on Thursday because I've got an event on Friday.

Saturday 10th I'm getting my hair cut and dyed sufficiently red for BiCon. Rar! Is anything on on the 9th or 10th where I can dance?.

Oh what to do...

I've just arranged to take tomorrow afternoon and Friday off work because I have a lot of holiday left and no idea what to do with it, and I have a LOT of BiCon work to do. I feel better already... (Sometimes I hate people who book this late for BiCon, but not as much as i hate people who don't book.)

I'm hoping to get Gosford Park out on video sometime soon, if [livejournal.com profile] pavlos wants to see it again. Plus I'll be at K Jackson's on Thursday. Otherwise, I don't know, so if you're doing anything interesting, let me know. You never know, it may have stopped raining.

everything's underground, we've got to dig it up somehow

Paul got me a present from Berlin. It's a book about a sheep called Selma which is so simple even I can read it. I also learnt a new word - I now know that the German for Baa is Mäh. I am now filled with a vague desire to learn any language other than English, which will evaporate once I have remembered how difficult it actually is.

Meanwhile it rains, I have cramps, and I have very little to do at work. There's a lot of rather subtle pressure on me to take some annual leave now, while there's no work to do and before it gets really busy in September, but I am determined not to give in to it while it's raining and I have nowhere fun to go. In any case I feel I couldn't relax if I went away for any length of time before BiCon. Actually I suspect that I'm not going to be able to relax under any circumstances before BiCon...

Tonight is the LJ meetup in the Holyrood, and we have a BiCon meeting tomorrow, but after that I have sod all planned, so I am going to try and round people up for social activities early this time - last weekend having been a bit of a washout. So is anyone up for any of:-
  • Velvet Chains on Friday (and if so can you help me with my corset cos Paul's away)
  • Dogma on Friday
  • Digital at the Venue on Saturday
  • The Forbidden City exhibition in the Royal museum any time during the day at the weekend.
  • Spiderman (I'll even go to UGC).
  • Cabaret or the Amadeus director's cut at the Filmhouse anytime after the 26th

And further ahead, there's a special festival Dogma on on 26th August, which has a license till 5am, and it's after BiCon, so I can do what I like, so I really REALLY want to get a posse together for that one.

Any other ideas are very welcome, too; there has to be more to life than going Mäh...

Grrr Arrrgh

My teeth hurt. Which means I can't eat these lovely strawberries because my teeth are too sensitive.
I have been doing finances for two days and I'm bored.
I'm not sure if I feel up to going to a film this evening, but if I don't what will I do?
My cow-orkers have canceled the Scooby Doo trip, so I now have nothing to do until next Tuesday. Sandy is going to a gay SM thing on Saturday and Paul is away. Jon has no money, so what am I to do at the weekend? I very much want to go clubbing and dance away some of the blah-ness. Does anyone have any suggestions/want to come with me?

TV party tonight!

Well, video, anyhoo

I've got From Hell, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Planet of the Apes, and Jurassic Park III. If anyone wants to watch with us, let me know which ones you want to watch, and we'll sort it out. I've got them for two nights, so it's flexible.

Stop the world I wanna get back on

Am stuck at home with a stinking head cold and my head is pounding from twelve hours sleep without being able to breath properly. I refuse to put this down to a moderate two and a half pints last night, as I was in bed by 1.00. Since it appears I am in too much of a bad mood to do anything else I am about to embark on the washing up from hell. Not that that means a lot, as all washing up is from hell that consists of more than a single cereal bowl and a mug... This weekend will probably consist of Jurassic Park III, From Hell, and beer. Anyone who wants to join us, give me a shout - I promise not to sneeze on you...

And it's been so long

People I need to catch up with soon:-

  • [livejournal.com profile] avarita to learn about selling stuff on Ebay and natter
  • Finn, 'cos I want to get her to alter some of my too-big clothes
  • [livejournal.com profile] gothtart to feed her, gossip, share flavoured vodka tips and maybe even some ideas about job hunting.
  • [livejournal.com profile] cairmen to go to that strange restaurant on Lothian Road
  • [livejournal.com profile] hfnuala to run through some BiCon stuff
  • Neal, so I can give him my old leather (which I totally failed to do last night).
  • [livejournal.com profile] akicif when he's next in town, 'cos it's been too long and we should go clubbing at some point

At least I am about to go to Ikea with Kaela, which is one item off the list...

Of course if you're not here it doesn't mean I don't want to see you, but I'm just struck by how many things involving meeting people I've been vaguely meaning to get around to.

The Internet came back!

It went away, but then it came back. It does that, apparently. Ho hum. So, tonight I go to the Holyrood, to see [livejournal.com profile] skx and anyone else who turns up. I'm kind of drained after yesterday, so I won't be drinking heavily (also I had two lattes this afternoon), but soon I shall eat curry and then I'll be more perky...

I like to stay in and watch tv on my own every now and then

At least that what I'm going to be trying to persuade myself of this week, as my schedule is absolutely empty this weekend, and my bank account isn't much fuller. TV is going to be shite, though, so I'll be mostly doing BiCon admin, which is OK because we had another ten bookings today, and I'm still expecting a few more last minuters (we're very forgiving people), so I should have a whole bundle of cheques to pay in tomorrow morning and then around 60 confirmations to send out. Rar! Oh, and I'd better send the deposit to the venue...

Still, and entire weekend doing what I do at work doesn't fill me with joy, so if anyone else is around and wants to come over for some food or go out for an inexpensive coffee, let me know.

And I scream at the top of my lungs - what's going on?

Well, I didn't make it to Dogma last night, but I did have a splendid time in the pub with Paul and Jon and Alex. We thought we were going to the Southern at first, as some friends of Alex had said they'd meet him there, but when we got there we found it was live punk night and packed with everyone except Alex's friends. Ran into [livejournal.com profile] jinxremoving outside (Yay! Nine has an LJ. Go look!) just as she was leaving.

In the end we decided to go to the Southsider on the grounds that it sounded a bit like the Southern and would have beer and seats and slightly less noise. This turned out to be correct. So I drank Froach and posed about in my new gold scarf and we had a really good pub type conversation before coming back to Mir for a smoke. We also gave Alex the Mark Thomas tickets that [livejournal.com profile] princealbert gave us last weekend, since he's travelling to London today, which he was over the moon about. It's good to think that they're going to a good home.

So what will I do next? my so-called schedule )

Entertain me

I'm thinking of coming to London for a few days before Easter. Is anything cool happening on the weekend of the 23rd of March? I'd probably fly to London, see a few folk, and take a day to get the train out to Leicester to do a BiCon site visit. I could go the weekend after Easter as well (6th April), but this is a bit harder with my workload as my line manager will be away.

We can't be naked and famous just yet

I will stop this in a few moments and do some more work. First I must venture into the snow to buy diet coke. Yes, I know I have nothing of interest to say, but I am finding it very hard to finish anything I set out to do today. Still, there's always envelopes, which are hard to get wrong.

This weekend I must really, *really* get around to doing some BiCon stuff. I hope to get a booking form sorted out in time for the 1st, to send to Brighton and Milton Keynes, at least. Once people start to book it will be easier to get motivated.

Oh, and anyone who wants to respond to this blatant request for motivation with hugs, thanks or congratulations is very welcome. People who venture to tell me how mad I am to volunteer are less welcome...
