Without pie there is only chaos

I did a number of brave things today. I had an appointment with a dietician, which meant filling out a more-or-less accurate food diary, which was more stressful than I would have thought. Then I saw my GP and persuaded her to give me a longer term prescription so I don't have to pay as often.

This is good as this morning I looked at my finances, worked out what the flatmates owe for bills etc and realised that I have almost nothing to survive on this month, so I hastened to cancel my latest Amazon order and am now trying to think of ways to stay fed watered and entertained this month on a handful of thin air. My resources include:

  • 19 City Single bus vouchers
  • 2 vouchers for free cinema tickets at UGC
  • 892 Boots advantage card points (enough for three lunches or so)
  • A Subway card worth one free 6" sub
  • Readily portable food enough for five more lunches once the kitchen at work is back in shape next week.
  • A lot of rice, pasta and ready sauces but very little meat or veg
  • £12 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers (I think, I have to check when I get home)
  • Enough vodka and rum to take to parties, but no mixers
  • One library card
  • One imagination (a little rusty)

All polite suggestions welcome :-(

There used to be a scheme that you could enrol on that allowed you to buy a season ticket for medecines, i think its still on the back of the prescriptions themselves.

Sadly it only works if you're getting more than me. My charges aren't actually that much, but getting three months for my nearly seven quid is better than one month's worth...

If you have something lifethreatening you can get all your prescriptions free. I wouldn't recommend it as a course of action, though.

I'd suggest using your tesco vouchers to buy protein (meat, fish, eggs or soya) and fruit. Tinned tuna, salmon etc is cheap and good for pasta sauces and toasties. Eggs are excellent for snacks and sandwiches.

I was brave and decided to actually sell stuff on Amazon [they take 86p plus VAT off your purchases]. So far, within half an hour of listing, I've managed to shift a Pulp Fiction dvd I got free for £3.50! Maybe worth a go?

My suggestions for saving money are: don't drink alcohol, drink water at clubs [easy for me], selling tat, bringing your own lunch to work, and join the library/reread books. I am going to make a real effort with the last two; I'm determined to get a BMW R1150GS, which is a large, expensive motorcycle, so I need to save my pennies.

In [livejournal.com profile] edinfestivals I'm listing all the events at the Fringe that are free. So far I've only gotten to children's, comedy, and dance/physical theatre, but the rest should be up within the next day or so. Some of them are ticketed but many are turn-up-and-enjoy.

And Sunday is the festival parade, starting at 230pm.

As for being fed, [livejournal.com profile] cairmen had an entry not long ago asking for suggestions about getting food cheaply, which might hold some useful information for you.

Hi, I don't know how well this fits into your idea of a polite suggestion, but would you like to come with me to see this utterly obscene show: XXX (http://www.edfringe.com/shows/detail.php?action=shows&id=XXXAA)?

Other depraved people may want to come too, if you know any. I'm only paying for your ticket though.

That sounds cool - thanks! What day were you thinking of going?

Tonight?

Certainly before Saturday.
